Four folding systems, four different openings. Choosing the wrong one means a screen that doesn’t cover the full opening, doesn’t fold back properly, or doesn’t survive the wind.

This page sets out how each system works, where each one suits, and what to check before ordering.

Telescopic How it works: The screen extends and retracts along a telescopic track. The track adjusts to the opening width, so the screen can cover openings of different sizes without a fixed housing.

Best for: Openings where the width varies, where a fixed housing isn’t practical, or where the screen needs to be fitted without altering the surrounding structure.

Strengths:

Adjusts to the opening width

No fixed housing required

Suitable for openings where the reveal is shallow

Can be fitted to existing frames

Where it falls short: The telescopic track needs regular cleaning in dusty environments, and the mechanism is more complex than a fixed panel.

Specification notes: Confirm the maximum extension width for the mesh type. For pet-proof stainless steel, the telescopic track needs to be rigid enough to hold the tension.

Roll-Back How it works: The screen rolls back into a housing at the side of the opening when not in use. The mesh is tensioned on a roller and pulls across when needed.

Best for: Openings where a compact stack is preferred and a housing can be accommodated at the side.

Strengths:

Compact when not in use

Keeps the opening clear

Suitable for wide openings

Housing protects the mesh when retracted

Where it falls short: The housing needs to be accommodated at the side of the opening, which isn’t always possible. The roller and track need regular cleaning.

Specification notes: Confirm the housing dimensions and the fixing position before ordering. For pet-proof mesh, the roller tension needs to be set for heavier mesh.

Guardrail How it works: The screen is mounted with a guardrail frame, which adds rigidity to the screen and the opening. The guardrail runs along the base and sides of the screen.

Best for: Terraces, balconies and exposed openings where wind load is a factor.

Strengths:

Adds rigidity to large panels

Reduces flex in wind

Provides a physical barrier at the base

Suitable for high-rise balconies and exposed terraces

Where it falls short: The guardrail adds visual structure, which may not suit every opening. It also needs to be fixed securely to the structure.

Specification notes: Confirm the guardrail fixing points and the structural suitability of the balcony or terrace before ordering.

Double Door How it works: Two panels meet in the middle and open from the centre, so people and pets pass through without stopping. The panels fold back to the sides when not in use.

Best for: The main route between inside and outside — patio doors, terrace doors, garden doors.

Strengths:

Opens without a free hand

Doesn’t obstruct the opening

Suitable for pets and heavy traffic

Folds back to a compact stack

Where it falls short: Requires the opening to be wide enough for two panels. Not suitable for narrow openings.

Specification notes: Confirm the opening width and the panel configuration before ordering. For pet-proof mesh, confirm the panel weight and the fixing method.

What All Four Have in Common 304 stainless steel mesh. Densely woven, impact-resistant, non-deforming. It resists clawing, biting and pushing without the weave stretching or tearing.

Custom sizing. Every system is cut to the measured opening.

Aluminium frames. Rigid, warp-resistant, rust-free. Colour-matched where required.

Pet-proof specification. All four systems can be specified with pet-resistant mesh and reinforced fixings.

Cleaning access. Panels or mesh can be accessed for rinsing.
